“In this universe, masks stand at the antipodes of praise, and an acid lucidity is sought. The author has wished for us to pause at every detail in order to find, in faces deformed in various ways, the identity we lack. Subversive is the style of this discourse, which does not dwell on the trivial, which does not aspire to beauty per se as a category, but instead travels in the hands of the grotesque to express itself. (…) One could say that, in each approach to being, that desacralizing motive endures, that driving force. (…) There is a critique of a world that is sinking, of an essence that is being lost, and of a double meaning of reality. (…) And in the midst of this apocalyptic edge, upon which we are about to fall, the author draws from us a bitter smile—one of those that seem taken from a silent comedy, in which what is omitted will always be more significant than what has already been said. (…) This is how we consume such pieces: with care, with savoring, yet with the certainty that we have reached the threshold of a world that belongs to us insofar as we unmask it.”
