“(…) And these pictorial representations by Yoandy Roche, which can indeed become deeply unsettling, also recycle content alluding to the precarious *to be or not to be* performed by the individual in the face of his public existence; (…) The clown is used as a convention, for the clown constitutes a symbol that is anything but innocent, even when it appeals to the healthiest of childhood fantasies. (…) It is the large format that consummates the balance sought in that painting which performs itself in its inner drama, allowing the scenographic deployment it requires and making it participatory for the viewer, above all confrontational. To look at these works, more than a frontal critique of structured society and its institutional expressions, is to place ourselves scarcely constructed before a mirror, to feel committed to what we signify, to be individually called to contemplate on the proscenium what we stage, and to glimpse the possibility of a reunion with our essence.”
